Seven Things That Made Me Smile This Week

Sunday, September 16, 2018

The days are shorter, the weather is cooler, leaves are falling and I've been dusting off my fluffy dressing gown because Autumn is definitely here! For me, this has been such an autumnal week filled with cosy evenings of reading, chilly walks, early nights and, of course, plenty of hot drinks and I am so happy to be embracing my favourite season. So, in a week filled with cosiness, here are some of my highlights!

Apples and peanut butter. Okay, take an apple and you've got a pretty standard snack, but take that apple and smother it with some good quality nut butter and you've got yourself a next level delicious snack. So, this week at work, my lunches have been centred around crunchy apple slices and all the peanut butter and I've been loving it!

Radiators. You know summer's over when it's finally chilly enough to turn the radiators on and this week, that day finally arrived so, from now until the end of winter, I'll be spending my evenings wrapped in a dressing gown, curled up by the radiator.

Harry Potter & the Goblet of Fire. This week I finished reading Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and, well, wow. I was seriously so blown away by this book that I kind of didn't want it to end and it is now by far the best of the Harry Potter books I've read so far. I think what I loved so much about this book was how much extra plot you get that just didn't make it into the movies and, as the Order of the Phoenix is even longer, I'm now super excited to dive into that one!

Book signings. This Wednesday, my sister and I headed into Waterstones for the book signing of Lucy Watson's new vegan recipe book and, aside from a certain head consistently blocking my view of the talk and Q&A, it was such a great event. As well as the signing, Lucy did a talk about her transition to veganism as well as a Q&A and it was great to hear about some of the hurdles she's faced as a vegan as well as her opinions on activism and, in general, I just had a fab evening.

New recipe books. Naturally, I came away from the book signing with a brand new recipe book and, even though I rarely use recipe books, there's just something about a flipping through the beautiful pictures of a shiny new recipe book that I just love. Although, after a fair few flip throughs of Lucy's book, I do have my eye on a few really tasty looking recipes that I definitely need to try.

Midweek baking. I often find that my weekday evenings are far too busy for baking, but on Tuesday, I managed to squeeze in a little pre-bake-off midweek baking because, let's be real, it's not Bake Off with out a treat or two. As it was bread week, I whipped up some sticky cinnamon pull apart rolls, and as well as being bloomin' delicious, it reminded me just how satisfying bread making is.

Chargrilled corn. Because Jay and I are a little wild, we decided to push the boat out and add corn on the cob to this week's vegetable haul and, all I can say is, a new food addiction has been born. Chargrilled corn has literally been making my dinners and I'm more than a little obsessed with them right now.

What made you smile this week?
