Seven Things That Made Me Smile This Week

Sunday, July 22, 2018

As of today, there are four working days between me and a long summer break and, let me tell you, I. Am. Ready. Like, seriously ready. This week I've really been feeling that end of term fatigue that everyone who works in a school will understand so this week has been made up of a lot of hot drinks and accidental sofa naps because, you gotta do what you gotta do, right?! But, the summer break is in sight and that's definitely been giving me the motivation I need to power through my work days and find some positivity in the tiredness so, here are my highlights.

Evening bike ride. On Monday evening, the weather was that absolutely perfect not-too-hot-but-still-warm weather that's absolutely perfect for a bike ride so, Jay and I dusted off our bikes and, after a slight tyre pumping disaster, headed off for a leisurely evening ride. As well as finally conquering a really tough hill that usually gets the better of me, the bike ride was just really fun and made a nice change from our usual evening walks.

Colder weather. If the recent heatwave has taught me anything, it's that I'm definitely not made for hot weather. Although I definitely don't want it to be genuinely cold, I much prefer a mildly warm day to a humid one and this week, the weather has finally cooled down a little and given me some much needed respite from, what was becoming, the completely unbearable heat.

New Converse. When it comes to buying new clothes, I can be really, really tight with my purse strings and, quite often, I end up keeping old clothes for years! But, I am in desperate need of some casual flats for my summer holiday and, after lusting after a pair of Converse for the last few months, I decided to treat myself to a pair of maroon, low top Converse and I'm totally in love with them!

Dr Pepper Zero. Diet fizzy drinks are bad for you, I know. But, seriously, Dr Pepper Zero is too good not to enjoy and, this week, Jay bought me a bottle and totally re-awakened my dormant addiction to this delicious drink. Although I am going to try and make sure that I don't drink it too often, it definitely makes a perfect companion to my Saturday night pizza.

Bagels. Speaking of dormant addictions, bagels are a food that I go crazy for once every few months and, as it turns out, a bagel binge was definitely in order this week and, oh my god, I had almost forgotten how bloomin' delicious bagels actually are. I mean, you can literally put anything from hummus to peanut butter on a toasted bagel and it will always taste so good, what's not to like?!

Book shopping. This weekend's trip to Waterstones has well and truly confirmed what, deep down, I already knew - I have absolutely no self-control when it comes to book shopping but, hey, there are definitely worse things I could be spending money on! This week I came away from Waterstones with  four books; Strange the Dreamer, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, All The Light We Cannot See and The Storied Life of A. J. Flikry and I'm literally so excited to bring them along on my summer travels.

Hot tea. If there's one thing you should know about me from reading this blog, it's that I am well and truly addicted to tea, I just love it! For the past few months, I've been on a bit of a chai tea hype, but this week the classic English breakfast tea has been making a comeback and I'm really not mad about it. There's just something so comforting about a cup of hot sugary tea and I'm definitely attributing my ability to power through the final few days of work to the abundance of cuppas I've been consuming!
