Seven Things That Made Me Smile This Week

Sunday, June 24, 2018

If I'm being completely honest, this week hasn't been my best because, on Tuesday evening, I found the back window of my car completely shattered which definitely was not what I needed. Luckily getting the car sorted wasn't too tricky but it definitely put a dark shadow on the middle of my week. Thankfully, by the time Thursday rolled around, all was well again and I still made sure to make plenty of time for smiling this week. So, here are my highlights.

Hobnobs. After the rather stressful car fiasco on Tuesday evening, all I wanted, well aside from my car to be fixed, was all the tea and all the biscuits and, I was in luck because the cupboards were freshly stocked with Hobnobs (which are vegan by the way!!). Although I was totally gutted about my car, a hobnob (or five) dunked in a hot cuppa certainly did a great job of cheering me up.

Fixing the car. Although in the grand scheme of things, two days without a car isn't all that terrible, I was literally ecstatic for my car to be fixed on Thursday afternoon and, I really have to say, driving after a car malfunction really made me so much more grateful for the fact that I actually have a car and the ability to drive and you better believe that I celebrated by blasting my favourite playlist and having a big ol' sing-along on the way to work on Friday.

Summer Solstice. This week brought with it the Summer Solstice aka the longest day of the year which is always one of my favourite days of the year! Although in pretty much every other way, I'm definitely an Autumn person, because I'm such an early bird, the one thing I really love about summer is the long days filled with sunlight that lasts from the moment I wake up to the moment I go to bed.

Adobe Premiere Pro. This week I decided to take the plunge and buy myself the Adobe Creative Cloud because it's something I've been wanting to try for a while. Since starting a YouTube channel in April, I've been using iMovie to edit videos but I really wanted some software that would allow me to make some cooler edits and, while I'm definitely an editing noob, I'm really enjoying getting to grips with the new software and figuring out everything it can do!

Donut peaches. When it comes to choosing my favourite fruit, it's always a toss up between strawberries and donut peaches which I guess is quite unfortunate because neither of them are in season for very long. Nevertheless, when they are in season, they're so good that I go a little overboard and fully stock up to make the most of them while they last. This week donut peaches seem to have come into season and they're super sweet, super cheap and I've been eating them at every possible opportunity.

Shrek. This week, Jay and I were a little stuck for something to watch along with our Saturday evening pizzas and somehow we decided on the childhood classic, Shrek. It's definitely been a while since I last watched this film and, I have to say, it definitely delivered on all of those nostalgia feels and made for some great Saturday evening viewing.

Literary mugs. This week, Jay and I went FULL GEEK and purchased mugs to go with two of our favourite books. We managed to find some really beautiful literary mugs from Virago whilst looking through their modern classics collection and, as we both found a mug that matched one of our favourites, we just had to order them. I went for the Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier mug and Jay went for the Talented Mr Ripley by Patricia Highsmith mug and, although I'll never turn a cuppa down, I've been enjoying my hot drinks even more from my geeky literary mug.

So, what's been making you smile this week?
