Seven Things That Made Me Smile This Week

Sunday, June 17, 2018

This week has been a bit of an everything week, it's been both fabulous, tiring, very busy and a little strange but I've definitely had a great time. The reason it's been a bit of an odd week is because I took Wednesday off work as Jay and I had to drive down to Surrey and, having a random day off work in the middle of the week definitely put the rest of my days out of kilter. Despite making my week feel a little off, it was fun to see a city that we've never visited before and, as well as our midweek trip, there's also been plenty of other things to smile about this week so, here are my highlights.

Avo, olives & toms baguette. It's quite rare that I actually eat out for lunch but, as we were in Surrey with very few lunch options on Wednesday, I popped into Pret and actually got something other than their coconut hot chocolate and vegan cookie (I mean, I did get the cookie too but that's besides the point) . I picked up the avo, olive and toms baguette and, despite being a little apprehensive because I'm not big on olives, it was ah-may-zing. The baguette smelled like pizza and tasted so good that I've literally not been able to stop thinking about getting another one since I finished my last bite!

Road trip hot chocolates. Although road trips can definitely be fun, two consecutive days of 5 hours on the M1 was exhausting and by about hour 4 of one of our trips, I was ecstatic to spot a service station with a Starbucks so that I could pick up an almond milk hot chocolate which definitely made the rest of the road trip a whole lot more enjoyable.

Chill playlists. Recently I finally figured out how to make my iPod work in my car which meant I could finally stop listening to the radio (hallelujah). Although there are a ton of songs on my iPod that I love, I've really been loving my super chill, classical playlist ft. the soundtracks of Harry Potter and War & Peace as my morning playlist choice. It's so calming and relaxing to listen to and I've been finding it the ideal way to gradually wake up on my way to work.

Veg Fest. I've been vegan for about 2 and a half years and, because it was the Great Yorkshire Vegan Festival in Leeds this weekend, I finally got myself to a Veg Fest event. Although more and more vegan options are popping up everywhere, the north is definitely behind in vegan food places so it was so amazing to see so many vegan food options all in one place at the festival. Naturally, I came away with a few tasty treats but I did manage to stop myself going too overboard with my spending and I'm definitely excited to attend more vegan events in future.

Funky t-shirts. Aside from food, the one thing I did pick up from Veg Fest was a super cute t-shirt from the Well-Travelled Herbivore. I picked up the 'rock out with your broc out' t-shirt which was for sure the best shirt for me because I eat a ridiculous amount of broccoli. As well as loving the shirt, I also just loved the brand as the clothes are made from recycled fabrics and the profits are going towards starting up an animal sanctuary which, if you ask me, is an amazing cause that I was super happy to be able to support!

Vintage Classics. After Veg Fest, Jay and I nipped in to Waterstones for a browse, but after spotting a new collection of hand drawn vintage classics, I literally had to buy some. I picked up a new copy of an old favourite, Bram Stoker's Dracula, as well as an absolutely gorgeous copy of Jane Austen's Sense and Sensibility, which I've wanted to read for a while and is now quite possibly the most beautiful book on my shelves!

Double chocolate peanut butter cookies. Because it's Father's Day today, I decided to get myself in the kitchen to bake up some delicious gifts for my dad because, let's be honest, edible gifts are always the best gifts! The creation I came up with was a batch of big, chewy double chocolate and peanut butter cookies inspired by the dark chocolate and almond butter cookie at Pret. And, let me tell you, I managed to create some seriously epic cookies and the recipe will definitely be on the blog very soon!
