Seven Things That Made Me Smile This Week

After a four day work week last week, a full week of work this week felt really, really long but, because I'm a total child, it's also been a week full of excitement because it's my birthday tomorrow! I'm fairly confident that, no matter how old I get, I'll always be ridiculously excited for my birthday and, in a week of lots of revision and exam prep, getting excited for my birthday has been a very welcome distraction. So, aside from pre-birthday excitement, here are some of the other things that have made me smile this week.

Fig biscuits. The first of many food obsessions I had this week was fig biscuits, or fig newtons as I believe they're called in the US, and, when I say obsessed, I mean obsessed. This has been a week of revision and, along with plenty of tea, fig biscuits have been my study snacks of choice and they've been the perfect sweet treats to get me through my study sessions.

Garlic bread. I mean, how putting together two ingredients as simple as bread and garlic makes such a bloomin' delicious food I'll never know, but I'm certainly not complaining! Garlic baguettes used to be a regular in mine and Jay's food shops but for the past few months we've managed to scale back our addiction slightly and this week we picked up a garlic bread for the first time in months and, let me tell you, it did not disappoint. I'm definitely going to try and keep the addiction under control this time by saving garlic baguettes for an occasional treat but, with delicious, vegan friendly baguettes for only 40p at Tesco, they're sometimes just too tempting to resist!

My final English exam. This week I sat my final ever English exam and, I can safely say, I've never felt relief like walking out of my three-hour Contemporary Literature exam knowing I'll never have to sit such a long exam again. I still have a small German speaking exam to sit next week, but with a three-hour exam in the bag, I'm definitely feeling like I'm over the hump. Finishing my final English exam definitely left me thinking that, while there are definitely elements of my degree that I'll miss, three-hour long, essay based exams are absolutely not one of those elements.

All the pizza. Tomorrow is my 21st birthday (!!) and, while I definitely don't feel ready to be that old,  I did feel ready to take advantage of birthday celebrations by eating plenty of good food, most of which happened to be pizza. My weekend-long pizza feast started with a meal with work on Friday, followed by my usual takeaway pizza and Saturday and the bonanza will be coming to a close with a family meal at Zizzi that I really can't wait to demolish this evening.

Banana smoothies. The weather has been increasingly fab this week and, as is always the case when I see a little sun, smoothies have been making a big comeback in my life. Normally I'm a green smoothie gal through and through but, when I was running low on greens this week, I whipped up a simple banana, cinnamon and almond butter smoothie that literally tasted like cake batter and was insanely delicious.

Malham Cove. Because of the fab weather we've had this weekend, Jay and I decided to take a drive into the Yorkshire Dales on Saturday to go for a walk at Malham Cove and I have to say, the absolutely massive gorge was a seriously breathtaking spot to stop for a snack! As well as the epic views, we also managed to walk through a field of some beautiful cows and spotted a mama duck with some ducklings so, all in all, I'd say it was a pretty great day out - despite the rather silly looking shoulder sunburn that Jay and I both came home with.

Vegan Ben & Jerry's. When vegan Ben & Jerry's first hit UK supermarkets in September, I raved about it because they were seriously bloomin' good but, with a hefty price tag, I've not been able to enjoy them all that often. This week however, it's my birthday weekend and the ice-creams are on offer at Tesco, so I decided to treat myself to a pint of the peanut butter & cookies ice-cream which, by the way, was just as delicious as I remembered.
