Seven Things That Made Me Smile This Week

Sunday, May 06, 2018

This week has been one in a long line of hectic weeks because, when exams and deadlines are looming, it just never feels like there's enough time in the day. Although I've been super busy, I've actually had a pretty great week so here are some of the things that made me smile this week.

Dissertation submission. I can hardly believe the process is over but this Monday, I finally pressed the submit button on the 10,000 word project that's been all I've spoken about for the past few weeks! I seriously cannot explain how great it felt to be done and dusted with my dissertation and, finishing off my biggest ever piece of work made the end of my degree feel very real.

The end of classes. As well as submitting my dissertation, I also had my final week of classes this week and, knowing that I'm never going to be sat in another classroom, lecture theatre or seminar chatting about books again was a really surreal feeling. Finishing my degree is definitely a bitter sweet feeling, but my seminar tutor brought prosecco and snacks to my final class and I left feeling super excited that there's only one essay and two exams between me and the end of my degree!

Midweek pizza. It was Jay's younger sister's birthday this week which, luckily for me, meant a really bloomin' delicious midweek pizza! I mean, pizza always tastes great, but it definitely tastes better on a Wednesday night that would normally consist of lentils and vegetables, ammiright or ammiright?! We went to Il Forno in Horsforth and I put together a vegan pizza filled with all the veggies that was seriously one of the nicest vegan pizzas I've ever had - so, if you're ever in Leeds, Il Forno is definitely worth a visit.

Local strawberries. When they're in season, strawberries are by far my favourite fruit and this week I've managed to make my way through a few punnets of sweet & juicy strawberries which have tasted seriously amazing.

New plants. Jay and I decided to head to Ikea this weekend and I picked up some beautiful new succulents, plant pots and a citrus tree to brighten up my desk. Now, the last time I bought plants, let's just say they didn't last very long so here's hoping I manage to keep my plants alive this time around.

Bluebells. On a walk this weekend, Jay and I came across a forrest floor that looked like it was covered by a thick carpet of bluebells. I'm always happy to come across spring flowers but these flowers, which brightened up the usually dark forrest floor, have to be some of the nicest I've seen this year.

Bank Holiday. This weekend is one of the best weekends of the year because, let's be real, who doesn't love an extra day at the end of the weekend?! The weather has been absolutely perfect this weekend and it's been the perfect chance to relax after submitting my dissertation as well as squeezing in just a little work for my next essay!
