Seven Things That Made Me Smile This Week {blogmas day 24}

Sunday, December 24, 2017

It's Christmas Eve (and also the last day of blogmas) and it's safe to say that December has gone insanely quickly. This week has also been the first week of my Christmas break and I've been enjoying getting outside for lots of midday runs with Jay, relaxing and eating a lot of homemade gingerbread. I've also done some very last minute, not so fun, gift wrapping, but now that all of my Christmas preparations are finished, I'm ready to enjoy a Christmas Eve filled with movies, music, board games and, best of all, all of the food! But, aside from Christmas Eve festivities, here are some of the things that have made me smile this week.

Last minute present arrivals. This year, I ordered Jay's main Christmas present from America (remind me to never do that again!!) and, I was told that due to customs, it wouldn't arrive on time. It's safe to say that I was, more than, a little gutted but after a few phone calls, a sleepless night and a slight palaver in the post office, I managed to pick it up on Saturday morning and I have to say, I've never been quite so relieved!

The Christmas food shop. Regardless of the time of year, I love food shopping and I'm always up for a mosey around the supermarket but the Christmas food shop has to be my favourite shop of the year. It's a chance to throw all of your usual budgeting rules out of the window and pick up all of the tastiest festive treats to enjoy over Christmas. I left the supermarket fully stocked with crisps, nuts and lots of vegan chocolate, ready for a weekend of plenty of good food (and not a lot else)!

Christmas tree crumpets. On a last minute dash to Aldi, I picked up some Christmas tree shaped crumpets and, even though they don't taste any different to normal crumpets, there's just something about the novelty of festive food shapes that makes me even more excited to tuck in to a toasted crumpet.

Decorating the bedroom. I like to live by the philosophy that you can never be too festive so, in that spirit, Jay and I decided to get a little tacky and decorate our bedroom with all of the tinsel and fairy lights we could get our hands on. Our room now looks ridiculously festive and I love it!

Proper Nutty peanut butter. I'm not sure if it's a vegan thing or a peanut butter addict thing, but I get ridiculously excited when I find a new natural peanut butter. So when I found some Proper Nutty "Nowt But Nuts" peanut butter in Morrisons, I couldn't resist - especially because it's made by a local, Yorkshire company! This peanut butter tasted so good that I really struggled to believe it was made with 100% peanuts and I've already made my way through a crazy amount of the jar (oops).

Sleep ins. Now, I'm never one for sleeping the day away, but as I've been on my Christmas break this week, I have been enjoying not having to set a 5:30 alarm every morning and, most of all, being able to enjoy leisurely, late breakfasts whilst watching vlogmas videos.

Festive coffees. As all of the (delicious) Christmas drinks will be off the menu after this week, I've been drinking as many gingerbread drinks as I can get my hands on. There have been plenty of festive cappuccinos, lattes and hot chocolates and it's safe to say my bank balance has taken a bit of a beating, but there's nothing like a warming drink to get you in the Christmas spirit so, I'd say it was worth it.

I may be 20 years old, but I am ridiculously excited that there's only one more sleep till Christmas! What will you be doing this Christmas Day?
