Seven Things That Made Me Smile This Week

Sunday, November 12, 2017

This week has been one of my favourite weeks in a while. Although I had no university, I still managed to be pretty busy and I filled my week with lots of fun stuff. As we're getting closer and closer to December, I'm getting more excited for my favourite time of year each day! So aside from all of the festive drinks I've been drinking (and there's been a lot), here are some of the things that have been making me smile this week.

Reading week. After seven weeks of university, I was so ready for reading week this week and I made sure to take total advantage of the week by doing absolutely no reading, at all. But while I didn't exactly get a lot of uni work done, I have already done all of my primary reading for the semester so I took the week as a chance to get organised and, of course, enjoy a little more rest than usual.

Jay's birthday. It was Jay's 21st birthday this week and judging by how excited I was, you'd be forgiven for thinking it was my birthday! There's just something about birthdays that fills me with excitement and it always makes me so happy to give people the presents I've bought them. As I only had work for a couple of hours that day, we went for a day trip to York and the city was already looking super festive. We also headed out for dinner at Zizzis where I demolished a vegan pizza because they really do have the nicest vegan cheese I've ever tasted!

Gingerbread cupcakes. Because Jay loves all things gingerbread, I decided to make him some gingerbread cupcakes for his birthday. Now, I don't want to toot my own horn, but they were seriously delicious and went down a treat with everyone! I'm so excited to share the recipe in a few weeks in Blogmas!

Center Parcs. As twenty one is a pretty big birthday, Jay's parents took us all to Center Parcs to celebrate this weekend. Now that we're into November, the forest was totally lit up with fairy lights which looked beautiful (and also made me so excited for Christmas). There were also two Starbucks in the park, two! So I was able to keep warm on our chilly autumn walks with plenty of festive gingerbread lattes.

Swimming. One of the best things about Centre Parcs is the subtropical swimming pool, with all of it's slides, jacuzzis and wave pools. There's also a heated outdoor pool which is amazing for an evening swim on a cold November night - although the dash from the indoor pool to outside is more than a little freezing! Every time I go swimming, I'm reminded that I really ought to make more time for the sport as it's definitely one of my favourite ways to work out!

Morning walks. We're only spending a weekend at Center Parcs so, in a bid to make the most of our time, Jay and I have been getting up for some early morning walks. Although it's a little on the chilly side at 7:30am, it's lovely to be able to enjoy the almost empty forest before everyone else is out and about. On Saturday we bumped into a few wild rabbits, robins and lots of pheasants then finished our walk with a festive Starbucks - bliss.

Rollerskating. As I'm sure I've mentioned before, I'm more than a little clumsy so I was a little apprehensive when everyone suggested trying out rollerskating this weekend. Rather surprisingly, I'm not too bad at ice skating but I really didn't fancy my chances on wheels! I was definitely a little wobbly at first but I actually managed to get the hang of it and with the Christmas music playing, I really enjoyed it. Plus, getting through the whole hour session without falling over was definitely a win for me!

So, its back to normality next week with a full week of work and university but I'm sure I'll find some fun things to do! What's been making you smile this week?
