Seven Things That Made Me Smile This Week

Sunday, October 15, 2017

Working in a school and going to university finally caught up with my immune system this week so I've been feeling completely run down! Unfortunately, Jay has also been ill this week, so it's safe to say we have't had the best week and have spent a lot of time feeling sorry for ourselves and drowning our sorrows in tea. But I usually take feeling unwell as a chance to chill out a little more than usual and recuperate. So here are some of the things that have been making me smile on my 'sick week':

- Green smoothie bowls. Although they've been replaced as my favourite breakfast item by porridge, green smoothies used to be a serious addiction of mine. I used to enjoy them almost daily, and while my blender doesn't get as much use anymore, I suddenly had a real craving for a green smoothie bowl this week. As I was feeling ill, I was more than happy to tuck into a nutrient filled green smoothie topped with some blueberries and my homemade coconut and almond granola. Being as clumsy as I am, I actually managed to spill my smoothie bowl all over myself, a cushion and the sofa but as the smoothie was so delicious, I'd say it was worth it.

- LUSH tote bags. Because I'm always trying to be more sustainable, I like to make sure I've got plenty of tote bags on hand to avoid using plastic. So whilst I was picking up a birthday present for someone in LUSH, I couldn't resist one of their 'fight animal testing' tote bags, because the only thing better than a tote bag, is a tote bag with an ethical message.

- Date and ginger sourdough. It's no secret that I am, just a little bit, addicted to sourdough bread - I can seriously eat it by the loaf! So I was possibly a little too excited to find a combination of some of my favourite flavours, date and ginger, in a sourdough loaf in Waitrose. The sourdough passed my pb&j toast test and it was so good that I even made another trip to Waitrose, just to pick up another loaf!

- Pumpkin candles. Jay has definitely been more unwell than me this week and he had to take a couple of sick days. Although that definitely sucks, it did mean that he could light my favourite pumpkin candle during the day, so our bedroom smelt delicious and felt so cosy when I came home from work!

- Chunky Monkey dairy free Ben & Jerry's. Chunky Monkey was the last flavour of dairy free Ben and Jerry's that I needed to try and I finally found it this week! I had been expecting this to be my least favourite flavour but this ice-cream tasted exactly as I remember foamy banana sweets and I loved it.

The Talented Mr Ripley. Due to strikes, my Thursday afternoon class was cancelled this week and I got home a little early, so Jay and I decided to sit back with some sweet and salty popcorn and watch 'The Talented Mr Ripley'. I usually find that I'm too easily distracted to enjoy a film unless it's really good and as I was gripped by this film from start to finish, I'd say that this was a great movie!

Thankfully, I started feeling better towards the end of the week and I'm looking forward to having a much better week next week! What's been making you smile this week?
