Jay had a few days off work this January and after a completely chilled out Christmas, we decided to make the most of his time off and headed up to Edinburgh!
We were both really excited, especially for the journey as Jay has been itching for a road trip since getting his first car back in November. Honestly, I was just blown away by the breathtaking scenery when we (finally) crossed the Scottish border!
After arriving in Edinburgh on Monday evening we headed out for some food and a couple of drinks, but after a tiring day of travelling we ended up having a pretty early night to make sure we'd be ready to get up and out early the next morning!
We started Tuesday morning in the best possible way, with a stack of pancakes and a hot chocolate in a lovely diner style place called The City Café! After getting our sugar fix, we had a look around the old town, which is just gorgeous! We had a quick peek in the cathedral and then headed up to the castle! The castle, like most of this city was beautiful! We arrived mid morning and stuck around for the one o'clock gun which, I must admit, did make me squeal a little! Between looking around the castle and waiting for the gun display, it only seemed right to have afternoon tea in the castle - I can never resist a good scone!
Tuesday night was spent in a lovely Italian restaurant called Strada. I was drawn to this restaurant as they emphasised a sizeable vegetarian menu and they definitely delivered! I went for a delicious pomodoro pasta while Jay had a pizza!
Though I enjoyed the whole trip, the highlight for me was a visit to dorm Highland Cows! As strange as it may sound, cows are one of my favourite animals and with their adorable ginger fluff how could I not adore these animals? (the urge to ruffle their fluffy fringes was real)!
I had such a great time on our mini break and I definitely think we'll be heading back to Edinburgh soon!
