Seven Things That Made Me Smile This Week

Sunday, March 04, 2018

Last weekend I was raving about the great weather and feeling grateful that spring was almost here and this week, we were hit by a massive storm that seemed to say "winter's not quite finished yet!" I've been making the most of the weather we've been hit with by spending a whole lot of time wrapped up inside and powering through my university work. Here are some of the things that have been making me smile as I shelter from (what is hopefully) the last of the winter weather.

March. March arrived this week and I'm beyond happy about it because I am more than ready for spring weather. Rather ironically, the first day of March was possibly the most wintery day we've had this year, but days are getting longer so I'm holding out hope that warmer weather is just around the corner.

Snow days. Although I'm (impatiently) waiting for sun and warm weather, we were hit by a big storm this week and I wasn't all that mad about it because I got a snow day! I haven't had a snow day for years so I was so excited when I was told that my work would be closed on Thursday. The temperatures were ridiculously low so it felt like such a treat to be able to stay in my pjs and get cosy while it snowed outside.

Sledging. Jay and I decided to make the most of the snowfall this week by heading to the park for some sledging. We may be adults, but we had the best time messing around in the park and FYI, sledging whilst standing up is 10x scarier but way more fun!

Indoor rabbits. Because of the weather, we brought the rabbits inside this week for some shelter and, although they usually love being outside, it was so nice to have the bunnies hopping around for a couple of days. Watching the rabbits get used to a new environment is beyond hilarious, and they were definitely glad to have a cosy place to chill out while the bad weather passed.

Coffee... Lots of it. Although I'm usually a tea person through and through, the combination of terrible weather and looming deadlines has meant that coffee has been my best friend this week. I go through phases every once in a while where I just really love the taste of coffee, so I've been enjoying getting cosy with a fair few mugfuls of the good stuff this week.

Lazy weekends. Although I'm not the biggest fan of the wintery weather, it definitely arrived at the right time because I've got an essay due next week. Normally, I hate having to stay inside to write an essay if the sun is shining, so a cold and gloomy weekend gave me the perfect excuse to set up camp in my bedroom and power through my essay from the comfort of my pjs.

Homemade bread. I am, quite possibly, the world's biggest bread addict, I can get through a ridiculous amount of the stuff and I'm not even sorry about it. My bread addiction means that I spend a little more money than I should at the Marks and Spencer's bakery so this weekend I decided to try my hand at making my own loaf. The house smelt ah-may-zing as the bread cooked and, although I haven't quite perfect my recipe yet, it tasted bloomin' delicious!
