Seven Things That Made Me Smile This Week

Sunday, February 25, 2018

After a week off work last week, I was pleasantly surprised by how easy it's been to face my 5:30am alarms this week! As the mornings get lighter and winter seems to be drawing to a close, I'm feeling more and more energetic and really excited for some proper spring weather. My renewed stores of energy have been coming in handy this week as I've been hit by a wall of university deadlines that I'm currently trying to power through. Despite my endless list of deadlines, I'm actually feeling pretty calm and, as usual, I'm just trying to enjoy every day, so here are some of the things that have brightened my days this week.

Hazelnut butter. When it comes to clothes and make up, I really don't spend a lot of money but leave me alone in a supermarket and I'll come out with a months worth of wages in food I probably don't need to try. Recently, my weakness has been nut butter and I just couldn't resist trying out a jar of hazelnut butter this week. Hazelnut spread without chocolate is a strange, but seriously delicious experience and let's just say that my efforts to ration this (rather expensive) nut butter aren't going too well!

Midday gym sessions. Thanks to a few cancelled classes, I've been able to squeeze in a few early gym sessions this week. As someone who usually has to brave the rush hour at the gym, a quiet midday gym is such a treat! Being able to take my time and actually use all of the equipment I need has made my workouts even more enjoyable this week.

Mangoes. The mangoes at my local supermarket have been ah-may-zing lately and I've been making the most of it by eating them pretty much every day! Aside from being totally delicious, tropical fruity lunches have been filling me with excitement for warmer weather and even more fruit.

Snowdrops. While the abundance of mangoes in my life are leaving me feeling like it's summer, every time I go outside, I'm reminded that, unfortunately, it's still winter time. Thankfully, I've been seeing snowdrops popping up everywhere this week and these little white flowers have been brightening up the landscape and reminding me that spring isn't all that far away!

Coconut Choc Shot. Choc shot is one of my all time favourite hot drinks because, despite being made from fruit, it makes for a super rich and creamy hot chocolate. In my pre-vegan days, I was a sucker for a Bounty Bar so coconut flavoured Choc Shot seemed like too good of an idea to pass up and creamy coconut chocolates have been making essay writing a lot easier this week.

Sunny bike rides. Jay and I have spent the last few weekends moaning about the gloomy weather so when we woke up to blue skies and sun this Saturday, we headed straight out on the bikes to make the most of it. There's something about a blue sky that makes even the coldest day bearable and it felt so good to get back on the bike for some exploring this weekend.

Mango Diet Coke. Diet fizzy drinks are one of my weaknesses, I know they're probably not great for me and I try not to drink them too frequently but sometimes my cravings get the better of me. This weekend was one of those occasions because my current addiction to mangoes meant that I couldn't resist the new mango flavoured Diet Coke. Luckily, there were no regrets because it was really blooming delicious!
