Seven Things That Made Me Smile This Week

Sunday, November 19, 2017

This week has been something of a rollercoaster week for me. Work has been hectic, to say the least, and, with only a few weeks of the semester left, it feels like I have a lot to do for university in a very short amount of time! But, on the flip side, being busy always makes me more productive so I'm finishing the week feeling like I've gotten a lot done! So while I managed to miss my car's MOT and I am well and truly exhausted, I still found plenty of things to smile about this week!

Gingerbread hot chocolate. Although it's only November, I'm pretty confident that Cafe Nero has by far the best Christmas drinks menu this year, but the shining star is definitely their gingerbread hot chocolate. Any festive drinks that can be veganised always go down well with me but the soy gingerbread hot chocolate really tastes like Christmas in a cup. It's quite possibly the tastiest hot chocolate I've ever tried and my bank balance has been taking a bit of a beating because I've been enjoying so many of them!

Early nights. Whether it's the darker nights or my workload, I'm not sure but I have been absolutely exhausted this week! As an early bird, I'm never one for staying up too late but some nights this week I've been crashing before 9pm which is a bit of a record, even for me. It's safe to say that my early nights have meant my evenings haven't been the most productive but a few early nights have definitely helped to rejuvenate me so that I'm ending the week feeling a little less zombie-like than I started.

Vegan whipped cream. When I haven't been overspending on Cafe Nero's hot chocolates, I've been DIY-ing some epic hot chocolates at home. Most of the time, I keep my drinks relatively healthy by using Choc Shot for refined sugar free drinks. But sometimes, you just need to go all out, so I treated myself to some vegan whipped cream and marshmallows to indulge in the most decadent and delicious (albeit sickly) hot chocolate creation!

Festive candles. As I've been burning candles none stop since September, my autumnal pumpkin spice candles have almost burned out. And while it's a little sad because they really do smell so good, I've taken it as an excuse to start buying Christmas candles. Although some people like to ease into the festivities, I went straight in there with Yankee Candle Christmas Eve and I have no regrets because it's probably my favourite candle, of all time.

The gym. Partly due to business and partly due to laziness, Jay and I have really been slacking on the gym front over the past month. But we bit the bullet this week and dragged ourselves back to the gym. I always love the saying "you'll never regret a work out" because even though I would have probably enjoyed sheltering from the cold and staying at home, getting a few work outs in this week made me feel so good. Although we're not fully back into the swing of it, it feels great to be back on the right track again and I was super pleased to discover that I hadn't lost my ability to box jump in our month off!

The German Market. Jay and I decided to get started on our Christmas shopping this week but we definitely ended up buying more for ourselves than anyone else (oops). We finished up our Christmas shopping day with our first visit of the year to the German Market which felt, oh so festive! I treated myself to some cinnamon almonds that I was very excited to discover are actually vegan! And I'm sure I'll be making plenty more trips to the market for festive treats before the Christmas season is over.

Frosty mornings. Now, in a lot of ways, I'm really not a fan of frosty mornings because they make getting out of bed that little bit harder and, lets face it, scraping ice from your car is never fun! But one thing I can't deny is that frosty mornings are gorgeous and, on the weekends, I'm more than happy to admire them from the warmth of the house with a cup of tea in hand but actually going outside in the cold, I'm not such a fan of!

I'm currently feeling a little in awe of how quickly time seems to be passing and I'm both excited and a little terrified that the first semester of my last year at university is almost over! But as Christmas gets closer, I'm ever-more excited! What's been making you smile this week?
