Seven Things That Made Me Smile This Week

Sunday, November 05, 2017

I've been embracing all things autumnal this week as we celebrated both Halloween and Bonfire night. I've been loving every minute of the autumnal celebrations and, as we're now into November, I'm already getting a little (okay, a lot) excited for Christmas. I'm ridiculously excited for all of the upcoming festivities but as the days just seem to be flying by, I'm hoping my favourite time of year doesn't pass too quickly. Here are some of the things that have been putting a smile on my face in this festive week:

Puddle ducks. On a bike ride this week, Jay and I passed a garden that was completely full of some rather adorable puddle ducks. I don't think I've ever seen so many ducks in one place and the unusual scenery definitely brightened up our ride.

Fairy lights. It's getting to that time of year again when fairy lights are absolutely essential. They look amazing as well as making up for some of the light lost as days get shorter. After a few twinkly additions, our bedroom is already looking so much cosier and I'm definitely on the look out for some more cute lights.

Christmas drinks. Cafe Nero, Starbucks and Costa all released their festive menus this week and I was beyond excited. So far I've only managed to pick up a festive soy hot chocolate and vegan friendly mince pie from Cafe Nero but, on account of my minor addiction to everything festive, I am going to be testing as many vegan friendly Christmassy drinks as I possibly can over the next few weeks - pre-lecture hot chocolates just got a lot more exciting.

The Great British Bake Off finale. Although the end of the Bake Off is always bitter sweet, I was so excited for the season finale this Tuesday. Luckily, I managed to avoid Prue's accidental spoiler so,  when I sat down with my tea and snacks, I really had no idea who would come out on top, but Sophie was definitely a worthy winner. Although I loved the old Bake Off, I was a huge fan of Prue, Sandy and Noel, so I'm already looking forward to next year's series.

Bonfire Night. One of my favourite things about autumn is the subtle smell of fire that constantly lingers in the crisp air, so it's safe to say I'm a big fan of Bonfire night. We always head to Jay's grandma's to enjoy a bonfire and fireworks in the garden. There's usually gingerbread, a big bonfire and sparklers and (as long as I wrap up warm) I always love it!

Feeling festive! I am 100% the kind of person that waits (impatiently) until the earliest possible moment to get excited for Christmas which meant that as soon as Halloween was over and November was here, the Christmas music was blasting and I was fully embracing the Christmas spirit. Although there are definitely some scrooges about, I was glad to see plenty of other people on Twitter who were ready for Christmas as soon as the calendar changed to November.

Gilmore Girls. As it's one of my favourite shows, it really doesn't take much to get me in the mood for Gilmore Girls, but there's definitely something about the chilly weather that makes an afternoon spent inside with a cup of tea and Gilmore Girls on the TV. Jay and I have been re-watching it (for the  millionth time) over the past few weeks and it's been the perfect excuse to enjoy sitting inside, feeling cosy with a candle burning.

With time running away from me, I'm looking forward to reading week next week as a chance to get reorganised. What's been making you smile this week?
