5 Box Sets I'll Be Watching This Winter {ad}

Thursday, November 16, 2017

It's never too difficult to get me excited for an evening spent binge watching Netflix, but as the days get colder I like to make sure I've got plenty of good TV on hand for when I'm sheltering from the, not so lovely, winter weather. Although I'm always up for new shows, when it comes to cosy winter watching, I often prefer settling down to an old favourite and trust me when I say, I'd happily re-watch these shows a million times over! So, whether you like to curl up in bed and watch movies from your laptop or, like me, you prefer a big screen experience like the Panasonic Oled TV, grab a hot drink, a big bowl of popcorn and settle in for some of my favourite Netflix picks!

Gilmore Girls
"Life dreams. Boyfriends. Intrusive relatives. A single mom and her daughter navigate a tricky path in life with humour."
If there's one show I'll never get bored of watching (and re-watching), it's Gilmore Girls. If you haven't seen it yet, where have you been hiding?! And if you have, I'm sure you already love it as much as I do! It really is just the perfect feel good show with just the right balance between comedy and drama to make for some entertaining, but not too serious, viewing. Plus, there's just something about Stars Hollow that perfectly encompasses the cosy, nostalgic vibe that I get from autumn and winter every year.

Bojack Horseman
"Meet the most beloved sitcom horse of the 90s, 20 years later. He's a curmudgeon with a heart of... not quite gold... but something like gold. Copper?"
I'm not usually the biggest fan of cartoons so Bojack Horseman was a surprising find for me. It took Jay quite a while to get me on board with, what I assumed would be, a stupid cartoon about a horse man but when I gave it a go, I was really surprised by how dark this comedy actually was. While it definitely has it's stupid, comedy, moments, a lot of the show is actually pretty thought provoking. Pondering on the values of modern society really wasn't what I expected from this cartoon, but the way it cleverly navigates dark humour means it's really worth a watch!

Breaking Bad
"A terminally ill chemistry teacher teams with a former student to manufacture crystal meth to secure his family's future."
I've always been a little slow to catch on to popular shows and it's safe to say I was very late to the Breaking Bad train. If,  like me, you managed to avoid the show when it first came to Netflix but you're looking for a gripping drama, with plenty of seasons that you just won't want to end then Breaking Bad is the show for you!

"When he impresses a big lawyer with his razor-sharp mind, a college dropout scores a coveted associate job, even though he has no legal credentials."
Suits is the kind of show that makes me, an English Literature student, think I should definitely pursue a career in law every time I watch it! It's one of my favourite, not too serious, dramas that never fails to keep me interested and entertained. Although, be warned, you may be tempted to give up your life's works to head to Harvard Law and become a lawyer!

War and Peace
"The lives and loves of three aristocratic Russian families intertwine against the backdrop of the Napoleonic Wars and the French invasion of Russia."
I can really only describe the BBC adaptation of Leo Tolstoy's War and Peace as phenomenal. From the actors, to the setting, to the (seriously amazing) soundtrack, there's really nothing I didn't like about this series. The show actually inspired me to pick up Tolstoy's, pretty hefty, novel and, while I'm not quite finished yet, it's safe to say that the BBC did an amazing job of bringing Tolstoy's book to life with one of those series' that seems to get more powerful, each time I watch it.

So settle in for a winter filled with cosy nights, good TV and plenty of great food! What will you be binge watching this winter?
