Seven Things That Made Me Smile This Week

Sunday, October 22, 2017

Since the start of work and university in September, I've been so busy that my energy levels have been gradually declining. Luckily, even though there isn't a uni break until Christmas, working in a school means that I get a week off every seven weeks or so, and the first break started this Friday! The fact that the end was in sight definitely gave me a (much needed) energy boost this week and I managed to get plenty done before having a week off. Here are some of the things that have been making me smile this week:

- Half-term. School broke up for half-term this Friday which means a week away from work and, most importantly, a week with no 5:30am alarms - hallelujah! Although I still have uni this week, I am looking forward to a slightly less intense week as well as a chance to catch up on some reading.

- Pumpkin spice cinnamon rolls. As we're almost at the end of October (where did the time go?!), pumpkin spice season is almost over! So it only seemed right to whip up a batch of one of my favourite autumn treats, cinnamon rolls and to make the rolls even more autumnal, they were iced with an epic pumpkin spice frosting. And while I don't want to toot my own horn, these cinnamon rolls were ah-may-zing and the recipe will be on the blog very soon.

- Autumn sun. To say that the weather has been all over the place lately would be a little bit of an understatement but this week, in between all of the wind and rain, there were a few warm and sunny days which were perfect for a quick run in the park.

- Final Year Project Presentation. As part of my Final Year Project, or dissertation, I had to make a short presentation about my research to my supervisor and peer research group and, as a pretty shy person, its safe to say I was a bag of nerves. No matter how articulate I may be in my every day life or how well prepared I am, all logic goes out of the window when it comes to presentations and I end up a bight red, stuttering mess. But I made a lot of effort to rationalise and I actually made it through the presentation quite smoothly which was such a relief!

- Singing in the car. One of the small pleasures in life is wholeheartedly singing along to your favourite songs in the car (regardless of how bad you are at singing). This week's music choice has been The Smiths and I've been loving singing my heart out on my way to work in the morning.

- Evening walks. As the evenings are getting darker and darker by the day, it won't be long before it's already dark when I get home from work. So this week, Jay and I have been making the most of the late afternoon sun and getting in some steps with a sunset walk.

- Pizza Express. It was my brother's birthday this week which meant another family trip to Pizza Express. Much like pasta, I don't think I could ever get bored of pizza so a Pizza Express trip is always a winner in my books, especially now that they have vegan cheese!

With a week off work ahead, I'm looking forward to catching up on sleep, reading, baking & research for my dissertation! What's been making you smile this week?
