Seven Things That Made Me Smile This Week

Sunday, September 10, 2017

I headed back to work after a six week break for summer this week, and going from a pretty empty schedule over summer to a completely full week has definitely been a shock to the system! Working in a school means that September is hectic so this week seems to have just flown by! Luckily, I enjoy being busy, so here are a few highlights from my crazy week!

- Getting back to work. As much as I love a chance to chill out over the summer break, I'm a creature of habit and I love routine. Anything more than a couple of weeks off leaves me itching for something to do, so getting back to work and having a busy schedule feels great! I'm definitely feeling a whole lot sleepier this week, but also very grateful to be getting back into the swing of things!

- Rainy days. One thing we get a lot more of in Autumn is rain and while not everybody likes it,  I think it just adds to the cosy feel of the season that I love so much. Of course, having naturally curly hair, I'm not the biggest fan of actually being outside in the rain (Hagrid hair alert), but there is something warming and cosy about being curled up with a hot drink whilst it's pouring down outside.

- Cacti. On a recent trip to Ikea, I picked up some mini cacti and my mum also treated me to one from Next. As I'm not the best at remembering to water plants, they're the perfect low maintenance way to brighten up my desk (and yes, they all have names).

- Unplanned runs. On what might have been the only dry evening this week, Jay and I headed out for an impromptu run on Wednesday. We actually managed a pretty challenging route, despite not having done a proper run for quite some time and although my, usually pale, face resembled a tomato by the time we were finished, it was nice to get out and enjoy an evening run in the woods.

- Bojack Horseman. I was so reluctant to start watching this show because, if I'm honest, I thought that a cartoon centred around a horse man sounded a little stupid. But when I finally gave in and watched it with Jay, I got addicted so quickly! Despite it's seemingly stupid appearance, the show actually has some really dark, thought provoking humour, so I was very excited when the new season came to Netflix this Friday. We've had quite a busy weekend so we're not quite finished with the season yet, but I'm sure it won't take us long!

Sleep ins. I've always been an early bird and have never liked wasting half my weekend sleeping, so when I actually manage to sleep in I can tell I really need it. If I'm honest, my idea of a sleep in is about 8am and after a busy week at work, I felt like I deserved a sleep in on Saturday. Of course, being me, I only managed to sleep until 7am but I definitely appreciated being able to just wake up naturally instead of being shocked into action by my alarm!

- Peanut butter & jam. Although I was organised enough to buy healthy fruit snacks for work, I have been slacking with healthy breakfasts or, more precisely, breakfasts at all when I've been in a morning rush. So I've been getting home from work ravenous most days and there's nothing like pb&j on toast for a quick and delicious pick me up when you're absolutely starving.

So that's what's been making me smile on a crazy busy week, what made you smile this week?
